... at the vets!
Friday night Osiris came in late & when I went through the kitchen not long afterwards (1:30 a.m. ish!!!! ) he was hanging around the hall & I noticed blood on the kitchen floor, checked for any dead rodents but realised that it was from Osiris. Eventually traced the blood to his tail but not sure precisely where - it had now stopped but it was in his tail in various places. As it was a Bank Holiday weekend we deicded it was better to take him to the vets' Saturday morning surgery which was also their advice when we rang 8:30ish on Saturday morning, as it was likely to be a cat bite which easily turns into abscesses. His tail was obviously sore.
Luckily Roman was still in so I was able to shut all the cats in overnight so Osiris didn't get out again.
Saw the vet at 11:50 a.m. & his first comment before he even checked Osiris was over was
"Can't you get me anything more interesting than cat bite abscesses"
I thought he was talking to the vet nurse trainee that was with him but it was to me!!!! I said well at least this was before there was an abscess - should have told him he missed the loss of appetite & blood test which Penny had recently!!! He has a dry sense of humour. The nurse had to scruff Osiris - in fact as the vet said use the "death grip" as Osiris was not happy (in fact was getting quite vicious despite a normal scruff) about the vet using the scissors to trim his tail hair to expose the 2 bites (either side of his tail - the other cat had got him with top & bottom teeth poor boy!) That grip did the job & the wounds were exposed, cleaned & a 3 day antibiotic injection was given with Metacam/Loxicom to be given at home. Any further problems go back on Tuesday.
We're keeping him in our dining-room & conservatory combination for a few days - he's not impressed - to allow the other 3 outside access during the day but keeping them in overnight so Osiris has more space.
Can't believe it Roman still has a noticeable gap in his fur from the shave he had for the abscess on 2nd April (he saw this particular vet initially on 30th March with the first signs but another shaved him a couple of days later in order to burst the abscess. Penny was shaved 24th April in order to take blood for test but that's growing back quite quickly in comparison. Now Osiris has had fur cut although you can't really see it. Only Lexie still cmplete in her coat - or is that famous last words?!
Not sure who Osiris has had a fight with I suspect its one of 2 choices, a large tom (possibly a stray & unneutered) whose frequenting the area at the moment (saw he for a short period last year) or one of 2 neighbours' cats although I checked on doesn't seem to have been injured so could be the other. Even if it wasn't the stranger I think it & Tigga (who spends all her spare time in our garden instead of her own) are causing stress to our & the other long-term resident cats in our close.
