I'm going to go to the vets with a list of questions to ask. If I don't write them down I know I'll forget something plus my husband is unable to come to the appointment because of work so will be asking questions on his behalf. Hopefully the outlook for the cat will be good.

manicrose Did they mention at all why it was bulging? That sounds like what my wee boy has and it is really nothing to worry about for now. His left ventrical wall is thicker (which would explain the bulge) which is what caused the murmur and the need for the heart to work a little harder pumping blood around the body. There was no mention of why it was bulging, something to add to my list of questions for the vet.

It's good news. The scans aren't anywhere near as expensive as I expected (about £90) and will need to be done once a year to start off with. If he does need medication then it will be about £30 a month. This is less than I expected and something we are able to afford. The vet doesn't think it will affect his quality of life and said to try and put it to the back of my mind. Yes it may get worse in time but he should be able to lead a normal life.

Good news! So, it looks like the cats will be yours soon, I am so pleased for you. Cats!! - look at the worry they cause us, and you haven't even got them yet - but, we put up with it all because they are worth it. It's worth asking the Cats Protection League if they will contribute anything to the costs.

Dexter and Ryan are home! I picked them up at midday and they are settling in well. After all the ups and downs of this adoption process it's great to finally have them home.
The vet was great. Explained it all really well and answered all my questions. The clinic she works at is about an hour away from me but would defo take them back there for anything heart related as that vet specialises in cardiology.

Thats great news. How about introducing the new additions on a brand new thread - that makes for a brand new start.

Great news about the scans and medication not being too expensive, and that you have them home! Glad they are settling in well. You must be so happy to finally have them home after all that

Great news. Welcome to Dexter and Ryan. I look forward to hearing how they are settling in and hopefully seeing some photos of them. Will they be indoor or outdoor cats? We hope to have them as indoor cats. The Cats Protection branch said they had been kept as indoor only cats at their previous home. However Ryan seems very interested in the outside world! Have started a new thread to introduce them and show them off. yourpetforums.co.uk/thread/6585/hello-dexter-ryan
