Teegiebear, such a shame you had bad experiences with both! We had a similar experience with dogs trust. I'd just got back from a festival and had flu but the next day we trekked all the way down the Darlington to go to the centre in the peeing down rain and the first girl we encountered was really helpful, told us about the different blocks, what the different pictures on the information sheets meant, told us she would help match us to the right dog and left us to it. We picked out a couple of dogs we quite liked the look of so we went back and spoke to someone in the rejoining cabin (idk if it was the same when you got Ellie Orpheus) She got the files out and all she could come up with was reasons why we were unsuitable for each dog (mam working although my dad was in the house, yes he was disabled but he could still provide the basic care), we had a young niece visiting the house two/three times a month amongst other silly reasons. She didn't even attempt to find any that may be suitable and if they had gone through that in the first place, we wouldn't have had to waste everyone's time. I understand why rescues are strict but then it's a bit too strict. If they don't rehome with people who work or have kids they're cutting our well over half of the population. I'm not surprised there's so many dogs in rehoming centres. It's like a battle at times. Saying that, it wouldn't put me off trying

My mums friend rehomed from dogs trust Darlington and the second dog they rehomed came out with really bad kennel cough they were worried about their first dog. Unfortunately it was returned after a few months as it kept going for them and their dog aft the first month or so it was fine it just changed and they were being bitten daily. Such a shame. They recently got a very timid sausage dog that had came from a puppy farm that had about 200 dogs on it and its doing great with them and hides under their lab when it gets scared, so cute

Yes charlottte, that's the same as what we did. The couple of dogs we'd wrote down weren't suitable for us because of one reason and another, but the girl we spoke to said we should go and look at a little dog called Buster because he would probably be suitable. But when we went back into where the kennels were, we spotted Ellie as she hadn't been in the kennel on our first trip round. teegiebear - Ellie was sent home with tablets for kennel cough when we got her, but I think it was more a precaution. She didn't cough at all, but they'd said that there was KC on site. It's a shame your mum's friend had to take the second dog back, but I would have done the same I think.
