Hi and welcome to the forum. As you say your cat has only recently started this behaviour I wonder if the problem is her teeth? Try and have a look in her mouth. Another cause could be boredom. A few of my cats like to bite the edge of a cardboard box and spit out the pieces. One of my cats, Kai Ruki, has always chewed paper and other strange things and he recently had to have 6 teeth removed.
Let us know what happens.

Thankyou, I have just checked her teeth and one at the back left has gone a weirdo shape and is darker than the rest I have booked her in at the vets just for a check up hopefully it isn't harming my little baby. βΊοΈ

Hey, today we went for the check up she has to have her canines removed as they were causing discomfort, they chewing on paper was her trying to file them down which was making it worse. Thankyou everybody

Glad to hear you have a solution but sorry it means she has to have teeth out. Mind you she'll be happier for it

I hope she will be a lot better once the bad teeth have been removed. Keep us updated.

She'll feel a LOT better once those teeth are out and it shouldn't affect her eating or anything I foster oldies for a charity and some of them have had barely a tooth in their head (Molly only had one, Domino just her four canines) but it never stopped them tucking into their grub, wet or dry
