Must admit the right hand of the 2 sideways looking photos does look as if the bridge of the nose could be slightly swollen. Hope Polly's OK bectil

Good news Polly's nose seems to have gone down. Bad news that feeling I had about the half tablet not being enough was right - she had a fit during the night.
She hasn't been 100% these last few days, although not completely vacant like she has been in the past, she has been a little quieter than usual and hasn't had a mad session in a little while. Back to 1 tablet today.

Oh that is good news about Polly's nose, sorry to hear she had another fit though. Not being herself could alsa be down to her nose as cats do rely on their sense of smell which could well have been affected. Hopefully the 1 tablet will do the trick.

tonib, of course, didn't think of that! We very nearly took her to the vets this evening - she hasn't been right at all today and noticed she can't lift her tail very high. We're not sure adsactly how she's managed to injure her tail, but our theory is she might have slipped off of the bed when she was fitting. My mum said she found her up against the sowing machine which is at the bottom of the bed. Though as soon as the box to take her was put beside her, she seemed to have perked up. We're going to wait until the weekend and see how she goes. She had hardly budged off the bed today, even taken the litter box upstairs when we took the dogs out, because when I tried to pick her up and take her down stairs (I like her down stairs incase she has a fit, because if she tries to walk down the stairs, I don't want her injuring her self), she didn't give a grumpy meow, it was more an in-pain meow. When she was lying there she was very slightly trembling and her eyes were half shut or so, as if she might have been in pain. Like I said though, she's perked up and even had some treats (which didn't touch the sides!), eaten her dinner and been outside for a little bit. We were talking and although I don't think now seems the right time to have her PTS, we obviously don't want her to be in pain - We'll have to see how being on 1 tablet a day again goes.

bectil it might not be her tail but her spine or hips or muscles which are preventing her lifting her tail. Any of those could of course be causing her pain. Polly might well have perked up at seeing the carrier on 2 counts, one she sees the box as helping her or the reverse, I'd better perk up so they don't take me to the vets! It does sound as if she has perked up a bit if she's gone outside for a bit but keep an eye on her, cats are very good at disguising the fact they are in pain. Its highly unlikely that it is PTS time yet but if she is in pain I'd take her to the vets for pain relief, but I suspect I'm preaching to the converted as I'm sure you would Hope she improves quickly

Ohh tonib, making me feel guilty for not taking her now! She doesn't come across as though she's in pain now, but will definitely watch her. She has been fine jumping on and off the bed, walking up and down the stairs and even did a little run on the patio earlier while I was waiting for Tilly to finish in the garden. Then when she had her tablet, she was fine with me carrying her to her food. If she still seemed as though she was in pain at the time we were going to take her (which vets just opened then), we would have taken her. She seemed alert, was making eye contact with us, head butting things, was wanting a fuss and was wondering about when we were going to put her in the box, so didn't feel as though she needed to go. Seen as you said that they can disguise if they're in pain, I will see if we can take her tomorrow. The vet might be able to see if she is in any discomfort

Oh, sorry didn't mean to make you feel guilty bectil & it does sound like she is improving, so she could just have been sore. I'm a bit of a worrier when I suspect injury to any of ours I'm probably 75% right in taking them but perhaps 25% over-cautious When I said disguise pain it's more a case of finding ways to avoid it by sleeping more or not jumping up as much. They don't tend to whimper much. I'd just keep an eye on her, perhaps gently stroke her along her back/tail & see if she reacts & if not try a gently pinching massage along her spine.

Sadly we have lost Polly this afternoon. Although she seemed okay this morning, she went down hill this afternoon and had two fits. The vet said that her tail had pararylis and the sneezing blood was to do with the tumour pushing against her nasal cavities. We will miss her very much. I will definitely miss our cuddles and her following me about for a fuss. We had her for 14 lovely years At least she is not in pain and hopefully she is with our old dog Winnie now.

Thankyou all for your kind words, and thankyou everyone for all your helpful, supportive comments and advice over these last few months It feels very strange knowing she's no longer here. It is automatic for me to check if she's okay when I walk past the room she use to sleep in, so it's a bit hard to get use to the fact that she's not there curled up on the bed anymore

Sorry to hear about Polly.
I still remember when we lost Solo, the cat in my avatar. For quite a while I used to expect her to pop her head round the door, hang around her dish to be fed and wait for me to get ground level for a loving head butt.
