What's the best food to help Ebony lose weight? She was overweight when she came to live with me but I think she's put on weight since Tom's death, what food is the best one to feel her to help her lose the weight she needs to?

Is Ebony an indoor cat or can she go outdoors? My Chilli was getting a bit of a tummy on her as she was kept inside since we got her in October 2013 but has since lost it as she now goes outside and is obviously doing a lot more exercise My vet once said leaving dry food down 24/7 just encouraged weight gain as (in indoor cats) they just constantly ate Perhaps if Ebony only likes dry food it may be worth trying a low calorie food for her. My two, Chilli & Lily, prefer Purina One in sensitive but I know they do a low calorie one too....my two fussy madams just prefer it in the turkey variety They won't touch Whiskas and turned their noses up at Iams and Hills Science Plan

When Penny put on 1Kg we used Hill's Prescription diet R/D (available in dried & wet) subsequently they brought out their Metabolic in the same range. which works well as a maintenance as well as a diet food so can be eaten by dieting or non-dieting cats, supposed to be something the cats will balance what they eat themselves. Have a look at the Hill's website Diet food (dry) but there are wet versions) Downside is only available from vets or online as far as I can tell. we also monitor her intake, for once her arthritis helps as she can't jump on to work surfaces & we leave the other cats food there. They know not to eat hers.

Ebony's allowed outside but she doesn't go outside much because she's scared of next door's dog (it can get through into our garden and idk how it gets through - neighbours don't do anything to stop the dog going through and idk where it gets through so don't know where to block off)
Both Ebony and Tigger get fed set amounts at set times and I know Ebony doesn't rob Tigger's food because they're supervised when eating because Tigger's the one who tries robbing the food straight out of Ebony's mouth)

Next door's dog is a terrier type thing and Ebony's afraid of it because it chases her

What kind of fence do you have? It's a hedge along that side of the garden and it's a long garden, my stepdad's going to put something to block all the gaps up but because he's unavailable until next month I've got to make do with what there is until he's able to come over to my house.
