The three younger cats have gone on hunger strike. They will only eat Royal Canine fussy food, Sheba domes (so expensive its a joke) or raw chicken. So, do I cut down on the amount of dried I put down to make them eat the boxes and boxes of Felix GAILS I have in the garage, or give up and feed them what they want. They are babies. Why do they think they are in charge?

They are babies. Why do they think they are in charge? As I read this to Mark there was a chorus of "They're cats!!!" followed by laughter from us both Difficult decision - I fell into that trap with Osiris - the fusspot when it comes to food. I pandered to his likes/dislikes & now he gets Applaws tins (I know it's complimentary not complete) with extra multi-vitamins & we swap this with whatever cat food is his current like until he decides he doesn't like it any more!! In his case he becomes a right grump puss & even a bit nasty with the others if he's hungry 'cos he doesn't like his food. I've even been known to put cooked ham on his food to get him to eat it! I was more concerned with getting him to eat rather than the what s he doesn't do dried cat food/treats of any variety - he considers it the food of the devil!

I know the feeling. Cats are crafty so and so's and they will win in the end because we think they will starve if we don't give in to them. My lot are just as fussy - I find a food that they appear to love, buy a pile of it and then they look at it as if I've given them something awful to eat. I fell for this again last week when Felix GAILS with the 2 flavours together was on offer - I bought one to try and they really loved it so I bought another 5 boxes and they have decided they don't like it now and I have 3 boxes left. When we had the snow in January I bought 2 large boxes (48 sachets) of Felix and it went down so well that I am still trying to use it up! bear in mind I use 1 box of 12 sachets every day between 7 cats. Their favourite is Felix Sensations and Felix Marinades but I am not giving in and paying £4.68 for a box of 12 - I only pay £3 per box of 12 so have to find what's on offer. I just want to know why they won't eat Kitekat or the supermarket brands. I daren't try them with the expensive Sheba or Royal Canin as they are sure to love it.

I'm with munchkins I have found a good food that is healthy for them and is the right price for me. Cats can try to rule and I'm afraid I will not let them rule me. If I did I would be changing the youngest food all the time?!?!

Just to say to everyone, if you are have boxes / tubs or whatever of cat food left over from fussy cats, your local cat shelter would probably be glad of it. That's what I do with mine.

How are the hunger strikers now, Christine ( camorris) Hi Toni, we are still muddling along. I have cut down on the amount of Royal Canin I am putting down, just a big measure in the morning and another one at night instead of constantly topping it up. Also I am only giving them the Sheba every other day with 'normal' cat food on alternate days. Alfie and Wilf are eating it but only small amounts, and Poppy just turns her pretty little nose up. She's the one I worry about because she is soooo tiny - still only 2.9kg. However in the last two days she has caught a bird and a mouse so I know she's not starving. I have just had some 'Lilys Kitchen' delivered with my shopping. Not sure it's such a good idea as it costs MORE than the Sheba, but one tray should do all three of them. I suppose its just because all of my other cats have always been good, regular eaters that I'm worrying. The kittens (small cats - they're not babies anymore) are so excited about going out in the morning they don't bother with breakfast. Plus, they munch the dried all night. They all have bright eyes and glossy coats though and they are all very lively.

Sounds as though you'v got the right balance, it could just be that Poppy just prefers dry but enjoys a treat We tried Lily's kitchen for Osiris without much success. Unfortunately he's not fond of the pate style ones just like he doesn't like liver based products. We got the Arden Grange paste as a prize from the old YC forum but he won't touch it, shies away, all the other 3 love it, even the ones that don't like the liver based food. Cats!
