I think the anti cat brigade are just blaming cats for everything. Seen it on front of paper but never read it yet. June.x.

Exactly June! Some humans are just so far distant from the rest of the natural world and regard all other species as things to be feared....it's ridiculous! If they would only face facts and realise there is absolutely no risk whatsoever from the animal world....it's their fellow humans they should fear Animals don't murder or rape or start wars.....or pass on virtually ANY of the diseases that we catch every year! It certainly wasn't Lily and Chilli that gave this darned flu bug to Neil and me!

No,certainly not.I think it's a good reminder for people to be aware there are genuine dangers of picking up diseases from pets through lack of basic and simple hygiene. Most owners are aware, but the way some owners behave, like allowing pets to feed from their own plate, licking their mouth, etc, beggars belief.

It's such sensationalist headlines! Surprisingly the article is quite reasonable as it highlights how very, very rare it is, the mother admits it was a fluke the cat licked the baby bottle (as a possible explanation). It just made me made with its front page headlines - muck stirring comes to mind.

To be honest, there are risks of everything passing everything on to everyone! Lol. You're more at risk of disease or infection going in a public toilet than having a cat, but I don't see a stupid headline "ban all loos"
I'm afraid to say, things like this happen sometimes but they won't happen to everyone, indeed the number of people this would happen to is extremely insignificant in comparison to the number of households that successfully have cats and babies living free of ills.
I also wonder why it is of any relevance at all that the mother was 18 when she had her baby..? What has that got to do with anything? It's like when there was a story I saw the other day about a woman who was attacked by a dog, and they said something like "the mum of two blah blah" and I thought how weird it would be to be like "the son of a mother and father blah blah" but for some reason, it's worse if the woman has children.
I'm sure some people will use cases like this to further their kitty hatred, but I don't think we have anything to worry about. Most things I saw about the cases of bTB in cats were actually quite balanced and people saying there's no need to worry etc etc. Dogs have far more to worry about than cats for the public fear of them and the likelihood of laws affecting them etc. The wording of some articles I've seen! And it's funny, because people will say they know the media twist things and exaggerate but then in matters they know less about (which could be animal matters) they pretty much believe what they read :S

Some papers (well, most of them) have sensational headlines to attract attention. They do their utmost to sell papers as most people read the news on internet. A pity they choose animals to fill the void.

As dutchkitties states, newspapers have sensational headlines to compete for buyers.Considering hating the D.M. and regularly quoting from it P.f.t. you seem to be a regular reader.I don't read or log in to any I dislike. I don't remember reading about the little boy, perhaps it was only online, but it was certainly horrific, that wound is awful and it makes my blood run cold to even imagine being in that families situation, definitely a life changing experience for them.Another case of idiot irresponsible owner, some couldn't be trusted to care for a mouse properly. All pet owners have a fight on their hands, dogs are not trusted and banned from areas because of anti social owners, and cat owners because their pets are at risk from the nasty ones who don't like cats who will stoop to shooting at them etc.

Haha I would love to see the headline "IDIOT MAN FAILED TO TRAIN OR SOCIALISE DOG!" or "DOG FORCED TO BE AGGRESSIVE BY BAD OWNER" followed by a nice factual article about how the owners poor training and/or abuse causes the dog to be aggressive and how the dog is now being retrained and rehomed to a nice person, far away from its former idiot. Maybe I should start my own newspaper
