My oldest cat Gerri (15 years old) has this. Her coat is lovely and shiny but she does have some flaky skin. I have found upping the grooming has helped and also adding a little fish oil twice a week to her food. she has kibble so I soak a few pieces in the oil and then mix it in with the rest of her food. This is probably the best cat grooming item I have ever bought:- Zoom Groom

Our Penny has the same - looks like a bit of dandruff. She's nearly 14 & a bit arthritic. Like gladys's Gerri her coat is shiny although she does shed a lot! Last year she had a problem with part of her ear becoming almost bald & the vet suggested Yumega Oil for Cats but did warn that cats don't always like it. Well Penny didn't seem to mind it & it did seem to ease the problem with her ears & she seemed to moult less & the dandruff vanished. A by-product was that as she shed less we hardly got any fur-balls.
However she has stopped eating her moist food if it is in it now. So we've had to stop it as we need to ensure she has her moist as she has other meds in it (& we have tried just the oil in it to no joy so its not the mix).
The dandruff is back, she is moulting again & getting a few more hairballs. So it does seem to have had an effect whilst she was on it. Although the moulting could also be because she stays on her bed in front of the radiator most of the day & is very toasty!!!

ok thanks, was thinking of going to the pet shop and getting a supplement, she has hairball paste as if she doesn't have it she gets bad hairballs, she seems to like it so was thinking I could get something along them lines, as for more grooming, she doesn't like it she attacks the comb or me lol

munchkins that's the issue we have with Penny now, I think she's very wary of any sore points from the arthritis.

I used to have a Zoom Groom years ago....not sure WHERE it's gone I'll have to get another. I've got a small puppy slicker brush which both Girls love but I've been debating about getting a comb for Chilli's longer coat

I bought a grooming set meant for rabbits and guinea pigs for my cat - it's much easier brushing them with a smaller brush. The wire brush is great for getting knots out under their front legs and on their chest.
