I was in Pets At Home last week and there was a man in asking one of the staff about puppy food. As I walked past, I heard the staff member say "You've got Eukanuba, that's one of the top foods..."! Granted, P@H are now starting to sell the better foods such as Arden Grange, but it doesn't sound like they're pushing it much! I did say as I went past, in a fairly loud whisper "no it's not!" but I doubt the man heard me. Obviously Vicky Pendleton hasn't seen any negative effects of feeding Eukanuba to her dogs and so believes that it's one of the best foods - don't we all believe that about the food we're feeding our dogs? Oh dear... In the year I have worked for P@H I have never once recommended Eukanuba or the like. Daily I move people away from Bakers and it's surprising/scary to see how many people think Bakers is a top of the range food!!!!!

There were a few posters about at Crufts with Pendleton and her doggys. All surrounded by Eukanuba promotions of course!!!
I wonder if she does feed her dogs it??

Wouldnt worry too much about it. My 16.5 yr old cocker was fed Minced Morsals and Hap he loved it! I took the sample offered saying my dog loved chicken too much, but he scoffed the lot.It must have been total rubbish. He was as fit as a flea and only cost us for his vaccinations over all thosr years.

My Lurchers (got them in 87 & 88) also ate rubbish all their lives and both were just shy of their 15th birthdays. I think you have to take a lot of other things into consideration, not just food. Saying that, I'd never go back to a supermarket brand again.

sarahhound; You have probably hit the nail on the head.At that time there wasn't such an array of different foods and treats,so dogs weren't as spoiled as they are now.Dans treats were Spillers dog biscuits, all my dogs enjoyed those, and Skip always has 6 assorted ones in a Spillers treat ball in the evening. The vet told me it wasn't unusual for Cockers to have such a long healthy life,as a lot of it came down to his long walks,so he didn't get over weight.

As it happens, my Lurcher was called Dan!
There's so much on offer these days, there's not really any excuse for feeding the junky foods, but because people see Bakers etc advertised so much, they do believe they are doing the best for their dog.

I did wonder why the Kennel Club had an olympic athlete advertising foods for them. I understand they want people to see it and she probably has a lot of fans, but aren't there enough doggy celebrities out there who would be better advertisers? A famous Vet? I would be far more likely to trust them than an athlete, who often aren't the brightest of the human race. I don't mean to be offensive to ALL athletes, my brother aspires to be one But that's my thinking

You're dead right! Bakers is SUCH a big con! It's quite expensive - because they spend so much in advertising: because it's expensive (due to the advertising costs!!) people think it MUST be good. Tragic really - the punters are just made fools of! And the fancy colours and shapes fool (uninformed) people who think this must make it more attractive to the dog; but we know the shapes and colours mean sweet fanny adams to our dogs. What a deplorable product!

PFT - May be the kennel club can't get doggy celebrities or celebrity vets to promote it because these people know it's not the best food out there and don't want to put their name to it???

I bet they think just because an Olympic Gold Medalist trusts in the food, the public will too.
