One day I can see a really and truely weird and wonderful breed coming out of all these mixed matings. A breed could turn out aggressive.

My understanding was the back breeding in the labradoodle was to get a less shedding coat (and tended to be back to a poodle). I assume it is for similar reasons in the cockerpoo.
I prefer my friends labradoodle who I believe is a 1st generation and is like a long legged Labrador with whiskers, he has amazing eyes too!

Gladys - I'm not sure why they don't mate mixed with mixed really. Possibly to do with the inherited genes? I would be inclined to think that some of those breeders do have too many breeding bitches. Whereas, as far as I can tell, the breeder I was looking at only has the one. Having multiple breeding bitches does make me think that they might be in it for the money rather than the love of the dogs, which is sad =( orpheous - Have you been in touch with the breed club that smokeybear linked back on page 1? I'm wondering if they would be a good place to start and ask about breeders they trust. I saw on their site they have a chairperson and committee like other clubs, they must know which breeders do tests and don't over breed their bitches?? Just thinking out loud.

No I haven't yet. Because I know that I can't get a pup just yet, I'm reluctant to look too far into it because I don't want to be disappointed! It took me years to convince my parents that we could handle two dogs. They're still not convinced about 3, but I know that we have the space etc. that we need.

If I'm totally honest, the only thing keeping me from enquiring about the last pup is the price. I'm glad I have willpower lol as I definitely can't afford to pay over the odds for a crossbreed pup. However, I've spotted a little rescue dog that I'd love to take on that looks like a cockapoo! The problem with that is it's in the Rochdale area and they're looking for someone fairly close

Might be worth getting in touch and seeing if they would be happy for you to enquirer about pup, sometimes these places would rather the right home be found than the distance??? How far are they from you?

That's what I thought. They do say that they normally rehome upto 100 miles if it means the right home for the dog, but this particular dog needs to be spayed so they want her to be done by their vets - which makes sense because that way they know she's been done I suppose. They're about 2 hours away, which isn't impossible I suppose...

Go on, give em a ring. You know you want too. 2 hours is's far and you could always make a day of it or stay over and have a mini break while she has the op. So what breed is she? How old?

Haha! I have to clear it with the parentals first.
She's apparently a terrier cross, but she looks quite poodle-y to me. She was matted when she went into the rescue, so she's been shaved and you can't really tell what she is lol. Two years old though I think. I'm not sure if she's got a home yet or not. Someone was interested according to their twitter page.
