I'd planned to visit Bakewell Farmer's Market today if the weather was OK, never been there before so thought it would be a nice outing. It was sunny & blue skies so decided to go. Got to Macclesfield & took the Cat & Fiddle route & it looked like they'd had a strong frost then realised that there were some odd little white flecks in the air - it wasn't frost but snow!! The temperature was decreasing now 0C. 20181027_100325 by osiriscat, on Flickr 20181027_100325 by osiriscat, on Flickr Went a bit further & it was now -1C 20181027_101139 by osiriscat, on Flickr An interesting pattern on that field! The snow got a little more obvious by the time I got to Buxton but there were some beautiful autumn colours (who needs to go to New England in the Fall! 20181027_102510 by osiriscat, on Flickr 20181027_103206 by osiriscat, on Flickr It had warmed up by the time I got to Bakewell - it was 1C & no snow . When I left it was 5C and I headed back over the Cat & Fiddle where it gradually dropped to 3C but the snow had cleared. The photos below were at the same place as the 1st ones. 20181027_134456 by osiriscat, on Flickr 20181027_134451 by osiriscat, on Flickr When I got home to blue skies & sunshine again it was 8C I only travelled 60 miles away (by road rather than as the crow flies) & was heading south!

Lovely pics and scenery tonib. It looks so cold and high up. Strange that you can get such a variety of weather and temperatures in 60 miles. Did you buy anything at the market?

lotsofcats, There were so many stalls it was difficult to avoid buying anything so of course I bought a few more than I intended! Here's a list of everything I bought:- Ironically some kippers from a smokehouse which is actually further north in Lancashire than us but I haven't seen it at our local farmers markets for a while. Had a couple for breakfast on Sunday & froze some. Some individual pies (all freezable) from a couple of stalls - I ate the cheese & onion one on the way back - it was really delicious & used Garstang cheese (which again is produced from slightly north of us). Some slightly different flavour pates (again freezable) - I tasted all their varieties before choosing Some Lincolnshire poacher cheese (plain & smoked). A spiced plum, lime & ginger chutney, a plum & cardamon jelly & a rhubarb & ginger vinegar. Do you think I like plums & ginger? Actually it was the cardamon & rhubarb that caught my eye although ginger is a plus A Lavender pump action hand/shower gel which I thought would be useful as I'm due to have an operation for Dupyrens Contracture on my right hand which will (temporarily) limit my use of that hand until it heals. Mind you I think I'll save any empty handwash bottles I get before then so that I put some shampoo into one as it maybe easier to use one-handed than a normal shampoo bottle. Oh & a Sticky Treacle Toffee Pudding - again tasted 1st it was much better than the normal sticky toffee pudding as the black treacle made it slightly less sweet. There were some other interesting food (vegetarian & vegan catered for) & non-food stalls including a local wild life artist. The best image I took away from it was 2 large black dogs - think they may well have been Newfoundlands - lying calmly by the dog food stall whilst their owners (not the stallholders) talked to the owners of a couple of much smaller but more excitable dogs. Of course as I was in Bakewell I had to get some Bakewell tart from the local shops. I also found that there is such a thing as Bakewell pudding - never heard of it before!. It's a puff/flaky pastry base with a layer of strawberry jam then an almond custard on top, instead of a shortcrust base and an almond sponge top so of course I had to try it even though I'm not the biggest fan of puff/flaky pastry. They are both delicious but I think I prefer the tart. I definitely think I'll go again

I like walking in the winter when it's dry and cold. We have had cold frosts each day so far this week and it's finished off my nasturtiums which were still in full flower. My neighbour feeds hedgehogs and she knocked my door on Monday evening asking if I had a box she could put a hedgehog in. 2 of them (both very young) had been feeding and suddenly the one curled up in a ball and wouldn't move, even when my neighbour went out and picked it up. She put it in a box and took it in and phoned a hedgehog rescue for advice - although the hedgehog was eating by the morning, they were going to collect him yesterday evening to check him over. It's just got very cold so suddenly and the young ones can't cope with it. They should be hibernating soon.

It rained heavily from about 6.00pm yesterday and poor Toffee came in like a drowned rat. I had to dry him off and put him in the dog's crate as the other cats were all in from the cat pen. He was happy to stay for an hour before he asked to go out to bed in the cats' pen. Today it has rained heavily again for hours. It has eased off a bit now.

Sunshine? What is that? We've had rain all week and I've not dried my washing. This afternoon we have a yellow warning for very heavy rain and high winds. Do you want to do a swap, just for one day?
