Late last night I was typing a reply to PM from lotsofcats when I was interrupted & as a result landed up adding this to that message ( lotsofcats ignore the quoted part of this post!) lotsofcats asked "if I gave him anything for his upset tummy & that she used to give Kai Ruki Johnsons Diagel, which used to help his upset tummy. Also that it does sound as if it may have been from Stevie eating some left out cat food, as it won't stay fresh for long." It looks like he had another smaller case of diarrhoea overnight. I've got nothing for upset tums. I considered if I should get a vet appointment particularly as all 3 cats seem to prefer the outdoors & I see less litter tray usage now, so I've no idea when it started. I managed to speak to the vet practice for advice, one suggestion was Nutrabio (some company as Nutraquin). I've had it before but the cats (can't remember who had it but vaguely recall Lexie & another) didn't like it. Just checked back on the forum & it was Roman in 2020 not long after his diabetes diagnosis when he got diarrhoea. Not much joy in getting him to have it. But first starve for 24 hours then a light diet. Keep hydrated. At least its cooler today & even has rained. Keeping all 3 in I suspect maybe easier, although not popular, than shutting Stevie in my "hospital ward" & letting the others have free access, as Lexie now spends a fair proportion of the day snoozing there. The other option would be to keep Stevie in the room that he has share with Shady since they came from the rescue, but Shady tends to spend his indoor time there, its both of them's home from home. Litter trays, feeders & water along with beds, climbers & toys. It's going to be fun giving Shady food & Stevie none, everyone got their normal breakfast (late) & so far no ill results. I'm going to have to work out how to deal with the logistics as both boys are very excited to get their meals. If no more diarrhoea I might just go for the light diet option straight away as by dinner time it will be over 9 hours since Stevie had any food. Will just need to go out & get some more chicken to cook as I just started the last chicken breast I had for their late night supper but if giving it as food for one 4.6Kg cat, I will need more at least by tomorrow breakfast. At the moment there are 2 bored cats. Stevie has been meowing & sitting by the door out. A minor play with a table tennis ball interested both boys at separate times (they're not great players with toys) & Stevie is on an upstairs windowsill, Shady is laying around looking very fed up & Lexie is snoozing in the conservatory

I hope that Stevie doesn't have to be starved for long. Does he show signs of improvement?

I decided that as there hadn't been any more diarrhoea to miss the starving but to give him the light diet of chicken & rice for tea instead of cat food. Well he's the first cat I've had to eat every grain of rice as well as the chicken. All the others only picked out the chicken or ate only a little of the rice. So far no ill effects.

Hope Stevie recovers and fingers crossed he’s not a picky eater 🐱I’m lucky with Freddy he will eat absolutely anything he is very greedy he just loves his food 😋normally he has a slow feeder dish because he scoffs it down so quickly he sometimes is sick - he’s only on wet food at the moment the nurse advised us to stay off dry food for around 6 weeks and he’s more than happy with that 😋

Only Lexie gets dry food & also wet. Glad that Stevie seems to be okay now. Is he back on the cat food this morning? I kept them all in again today as no faeces from Stevie of any variety yesterday with Stevie getting chicken & rice again this morning. Still nothing until around 8pm tonight, not good solid was brown but this accompanied by chip shop chines curry yellow colour gloop At least Tuesday night it was all brown although this wasn't as stinky! Sorry for the descriptions. Again he was agitated/meowing beforehand mainly indicating he wanted out. Not sure if there is any pain or just wanted out to possibly eat grass or just use the outside world as his toilet. Spoke to my friend Ajax & she suggest no rice so he just got chicken this evening. I'm a bit concerned about the yellow colour so I might see if I can get Stevie to a vet tomorrow. I hope I don't have to wait for 2 days to check his faeces every time!!!

I hope Stevie is better today tonib. It's probably not the same, but when Jasper has a lot of chicken his poos are really sloppy and can be pale in colour too. Fingers crossed it's the same for Stevie.

Thought I'd updated this but obviously haven't. Friday 30/6 Took him to the vet who basically said he was fine except for the diarrhoea. We got the Nutrabio paste to ad to his chicken once a day. Just a waiting game to see if it resolves itself. Like other of my cats who'd had it he wasn't a fan especially that day as the first dose is double! (I've checked back & Roman had had it but in the early days if his diabetes/hyperthyroid but despite being after food he had great difficulty eating the double dose. Neither he or Stevie would have it direct from the tube. Luckily when I tried the Katkin food for Lexie & Osiris (too rich for Lexie & Osiris went off it fairly quickly - just as I got his 2nd subscription!) the company did provide a tub of dried chicken treats & also 2 small jars (about the size of guest house jam pots) of powdered freeze dried chicken as a topping to use when changing over to their new food. Luckily I hadn't have to use it so tried this powder on the laced chicken for Stevie & it worked a treat!!!! Certainly is magic Still keeping everyone in until Stevie is back to normal. Overnight Sat to Sun 1-2/7 there was a better but not good poo, so treatment still continuing. Finally Tuesday 4/7 there was a normal Stevie poo. so Wednesday 5/7 everyone was allowed out. Stevie still had chicken for breakfast laced with Nutrabio but had cat pouches for the other 2 meals. Of course what did he do go off to where I thought he might have picked up some dodgy food, ws I glad to see him back home & well later! He wandered off there Thursday & Friday as well in fact was not home for most of Friday in that area, although checking the history of the tracker I did see he had come home but not found me as he normally does. Friday 7/7 I went looking for him & met the person who I thought left cat food out but in fact she leave dry kibble out for the hedgehogs late at night. she has a cat herself it turns out. While I was talking to her I suddenly saw Stevie on the roof of one of her neighbour's shed! We could hear that neighbour trying to get her dog in! I went round there & called Stevie & he came along the shed roof hopped on to the high wall then walked calmly along the wall and came down in their front garden & proceeded to briefly say hello before crossing the road & down the side of the house opposite. He was taking the cat route home.. I did go up one close between there & our house & he happily came to me rolling on the ashphalt of the turning circle but wasn't coming with me as I walked down that close & round to the next one (mine) & up to the top & home. Of course who was there to great me but Stevie & it was feeding time ! So easy for a cat who go over fences under/through gates Gave them all their usual food & Stevie was eagerly tucking into it. However when I went to let the boys out of their room for the rest of the evening Stevie's bowl wasn't polished clean like it normally is most of the food had been eaten but for anything to be left is most unusual. He was also very lethargic. he did eventually come downstairs but spent the evening on a chair which is not usual & when I did everyone's late night feed he didn't stir, so I gave him chicken instead of a pouch of cat food. In fact I had to carry him up to their room & he wasn't interested in the chicken. Very strange. So every time I woke in the night (as I normally do) I went & checked on him. He was just sprawled where I left him and the chicken wasn't touched. So I decided to get a vet appointment this morning (Sat 8th) even thought the final time when I got up to ring the vet he did move & when had fed some of the overnight chicken was very interested. It was like he'd forgotten it was there. I only gave him & Shady a few pieces, before going to do breakfasts & ring the vets as soon as they opened. We were given a 9:40 appointment at the main hospital (all the branches are closed at the weekend) So as soon as I'd got the breakfast bowls done I gave Lexie her's in her room, but not the boys. Got dressed, got Stevie's carrier out, then went to put him, he was definitely still a little lethargic as he didn't struggle. Once in I gave Shady his breakfast & off Stevie & I went to the vet (no breakfast for either of us). Saw the same vet as the previous Friday & again he was Ok but she could feel that his intestines/bowel were firmer than perhaps they should be but not too bad. Diagnosis some constipation. He was weighed & was 4.8Kg just 0.16kg since that Friday which of course could be due to what was still inside him! So an injection of Vomend which, although he's not vomiting, should improve the progress of things through the intestines etc. & some Emeprid to give twice a day from Sunday morning. Also he's to have the Nutrabio again. So chicken & Nutrabio this morning but wet food pouches for the other 2 meals as the moisture may help the progression. So everyone kept in again today & until Stevie passes a normal stool or he goes back to the vet after 3 days if no change. He's happily eating & not lethargic but probably not as active as he was the last time he was kept in. so just a waiting game Of course hell probably use the litter tray when he's in their room so I may not know whose it is!

Fingers crossed for Stevie tonib hope he recovers soon 😻is he ok with not going outside? for a few days Yes I can imagine it’s quite difficult in a multi cat household who’s the 💩 is - are you able to keep Stevie in a separate room with his own litter box 😻or is that not possible.

I hope Stevie recovers from his bout of constipation soon. Good idea to keep him in until he's back to normal.

Well I think he's did a good poo yesterday, larger than normal but not surprising! It was either him or Shady & there was another that was like Shady. Lexie uses her own litter tray.
As to keeping Stevie separate, he shares a room with Shady for food, sleep & I'm not sure how isolating him would help as it could stress him, not that he seems a cat that will stress, but he shared a pen at the rescue & they've been together here & presumably at their previous home.
In fact I decided as they were being kept in I'd allow them the run of the house overnight for the last 2 nights to see what happened. Lexie hasn't been too disturbed by it. I'd already changed her, a short while after Osiris's demise, to only be kept in her room for food & she now spends her nights on my bed (as Osiris did) & more recently preferring me to the bed! She's not impressed when I tell her to move off my chest or feet! She doesn't realise that she's safer as I can be a restless sleeper never mind having to visit the toilet during the night!!!
Despite the probable Stevie poo I'm keeping them in again today along with giving Stevie his meds &hope that there's another one. Yesterday he was crying & wanted out, the latter not surprising but the crying was. As that what happened when he started with the constipation issue, I wondered about him wanting to eat grass. So I went out to the garden & cut him some grass ( really need to get the beds tidied up) & that was happily munched. In fact we repeated the process latter. I'll have to go out again soon to get some more but its raining again so I'll wait a bit. I do have some cat grass seeds & growing medium so I might plant that again but he'll (hopefully) be better by the time its edible!
I may still get him to the vets tomorrow just so that they can check there's nothing building up again. He's not a regular every day cat so difficult to say if he's constipated or just not needing to go but the grass requirement makes me wonder.
