On Tuesday the tree surgeon were working here & the 2 boys were not impressed with the strangers & noise, Lexie of course was in supervisor mode at least initially until she got bored!
Their H&S auditor came later having being stuck on the motorway & as a result asked if he could use the toilet, no problem. Osiris was crouched in the hall by the front door & surprisingly didn't shift when he came in from the back via the utility & kitchen. The toilet is off the hall behind the utility & kitchen. However it was a different matter when the auditor come out. He was a biggish man & he got almost run over in the doorway of the kitchen as a scared Osiris came hell for leather along the carpeted hallway, aiming to turn right through the kitchen door, towards the utility followed almost immediately by a left through the doorway into the utility & then out through the catflap in the back door.
However his plan didn't quite work out like that as the kitchen floor is a laminate so doesn't have the traction that a carpet does! Poor boy did a good Tom & Jerry impression as his first right turn only made about 45 degrees (at high speed) & with legs, paws etc flailing he broke his speed by slamming into his feeder & the side of the cupboard. Without a pause he recovered & ran (only slightly more slowly) out into the utility & out the catflap. I was concerned about him but now I know he's OK I can see the cartoon side! I don't think the man quite knew what was happening!
The grass in places is slightly muddy now as it was wet & they had no choice but to walk on it. Also the mud transferred on to the patio a bit although they did a very good job of clearing up all the debris. I don't know if that has anything to do with what happened next this week.
A couple of weeks ago I took Roman to see the vet as his left hind was obviously weaker as it was trailing when jumping up (its always been slightly weak since his cruciate op in 2016 due to the partly stretched Achilles) & he was having difficulty making some of his jumps - mind you he's become a bit of a muscles man around the shoulders! The vet confirmed that his thigh muscle was a bit wasted & suggested that I increased his Metacam to full weight, even though neither he or I really want to, if he was a dog he'd recommend physio but as a cat .....! I did that & his jumping improved & gradually I've been able to decrease the dose again to his arthritis maintenance dose.
Wednesday evening Roman had his dinner on the utility worktop - his choice he was waiting there for me to do it! He then got down & went out & about 30-46 minutes later I saw him come in & realised that he was limping. From the back I thought it was his left hind. He went to his feeder (now on the ground), ate some more & then flopped on the floor. So I carried him into the living room on to the sofa cushion where he quickly got down & I realised that he wasn't putting any weight on his right front paw, in fact when sat he was holding it up slightly. I couldn't find anything obvious but he wasn't happy! I carried him upstairs at bedtime & he used the litter tray & then flopped on the floor again. I went to carry him to his basket & realised that his back end was wet. Poor boy, he probably had difficulty balancing with a painful front leg So I dried him up, thank goodness it was only urine! carried him to his basket.
Even though he was putting a little weight on it yesterday morning (Thursday) & he'd got up on to the bedroom windowsill, I took him to the vet & nothing obvious was found. She thought he'd just strained/pulled a muscle/tendon. So back to full dosage Metacam for 2-3 days & incarceration. He loves his Metacam so he's please about that but no so happy about staying in Admittedly not missing much as yesterday afternoon it was really windy & today a little wind but heavy rain. He's happily jumping again but still limping slightly & wary about getting down from somewhere so obviously still a bit painful with weight. If he's not better then we'll be back at the vets next week. I'm already booked on Wednesday morning for Osiris' annual check up & vaccinations.
It's odd the one cat (Osiris) I see do something that could cause injury is OK & another (Roman) is injured but no idea why!!
