tonib so glad to hear the good news 😊well I know hernia is not great but much better than anything sinister. I can just imagine the anxiety it has caused you can’t help but think the worse ☹️ Glad the op went well but it’s usually the after care that is worse especially with cats it’s not that easy trying to keep them resting but hopefully the recovery will pass quickly and Lexie will be back to her normal self in no time. .

Good news that the op went well tonib. Poor Lexie on full cage rest. Cats really have a difficult time with the collars and litter trays, Kiba-Khan was the same. Especially hard for Lexi with not much room for manoeuvre. I expect Roman and Osiris are thinking rather you than me. Lexie & I thank you all for the concern & well wishes I must admit the stress levels were high last evening trying to stop her climbing the bars of the cage. She's now used the litter tray for urine but nothing else yet but then she was starved from Monday 10:30 pm until 6 pm Tuesday when she only had a little chicken until normal meals today (Wednesday). I'm thinking about putting her in her carrier when I clean/tidy the cage as she's Ok wandering around the room but she's climbing on to things which isn't a good idea especially when I'm head in the cage & hence can't get up quickly to stop her, although to be be fair she does usually listen when I tell her to stop but not always. she won't be happy However she is settling in the cage a lot better - not happy but ..... Good news that the op went well tonib. Poor Lexie on full cage rest. Cats really have a difficult time with the collars and litter trays, Kiba-Khan was the same. Oh Lexie has plenty of room to manoeuvre lotsofcats - its a big cage for a small cat! I've taken some pics & will try & post them tomorrow.

Arrr bless her , it’s hard enough crating a dog but a cat is even worse ☹️Freddy hates it in his carrier and he too would be like Lexie climbing up the sides but he would be screaming . At least you are at home and can keep your eye on her . I bet you are counting down the days 😊 When phoebe had her major op I took a few days holiday but she would not tolerate the crate it was a nightmare trying to keep her calm has she was quite a hyper dog - when I went back to work phoebe went to stay with my mum so they could keep an eye on her and stop her from jumping on and off the sofa . The problem is tonib that they don’t really realise what as happened and they still try to do what they normally do . Sounds like you are doing a great job with her though 😊

Thanks for asking lotsofcats. Lexie is still climbing the bars - literally - but listens when I tell her down! She is calmer & coping with food, water & litter tray with her collar on but is not impressed with being put in her carrier when I need to tidy her cage, so 1st thing in the morning & her tea. I can usually deal just with the litter tray or change her water without having to get her out the cage but combining things lands up with spilt water or her escape. I'm glad I've got a small cordless vac as that hoovers up the scattered litter & fur off her bed but she would be stressed if I used when she was in the cage! She's good at moving her litter around the cage not just digging it up to use but using the edge of the tray to raise her up a bit, to look at things or start her climbing, so can stand in the litter & then walk it around in her paws! I really feel sorry for her, as chantel said she just can't understand why she's not allowed out or to do things. Humans are told they are going to be operated on so now what to expect afterwards but our pets don't even know what's happened to them (or even if anything has other than the shaved & stitched areas) never mind what they can & can't do or why. Lexie obviously feels comfortable stretching when she climbs the bars or jumps up if loose, good news that shows its not painful but she doesn't know that she could be ruining the work the vet has done repairing her hernia!

I do feel sorry for her tonib, and for you too because you have to do this to her and she doesn't understand why.

Just catching up. Glad to see that the lump wasn't more serious than a hernia.
How is she doing now, is she still climbing the cage bars. (poor girl) Have you started to let her out for a while yet?

Thanks for asking cazypops yep she's still climbing the bars, she gets a bit of, very supervised, outings from the cage but definitely with the collar on as I caught her today licking the wound with the collar off! Today my friend Ajax & I met up & she very kindly came & clipped Lexie's claws, with showing & indoor cats she's more used to it than me & hence able to do it quicker, a bonus with fidget bridget Lexie . With me holding Lexie Ajax was also able to see the wound which looks clean but is weeping a little, nothing to worry about but I'll try & keep an eye on it, & will take her back earlier if necessary. Lexie's eating well, drinking some & using the litter tray OK, just 5 more nights before seeing the vet on Friday morning when its planned that her stitches will come out & she'll be allowed out. so fingers crossed

After this morning's cage cleaning those 4 nights can't go quick enough lotsofcats. I didn't notice when I said good morning but when I brought her breakfast I discovered that she'd managed to spill some of her litter out the tray, including some solid chunks so more or less everything had to come out the cage while I tipped what I could into the litter tray. I'd also forgotten to put the cordless vac on charge & of course that kept cutting out as I was trying to clear the unused spilt litter, just made it took although it considerably longer than normal Lexie of course allowed her (coned) freedom although kept coming back to the cage as she wanted her food Once fully charge I'll clear up the carpet - how she managed to get some out of both sides of the tray I don't know, luckily the carpet was just scattered loose litter - probably a result of 2 tray usages overnight!

Went to the vet this morning & Lexie's stitches were removed. ##there was still a slight swelling but she's no longer on cage rest or having to wear a cone of shame! However the vet wants to delay her access to the wide world for a couple more days so she's currently on house arrest! As I can't stop her going out & still let the other 2 come & go she now has the freedom of my "hospital word" (i.e the dining-room & conservatory combination) during the day, as I can isolate that area from the rest of the house & use the kitchen as a secure in & out of there when I need to go in to see her as it also has doors to the rest of the house & utility (which has the cat flap) so it can act as a sort of airlock to prevent her escape! The cage is now dismantled & the living room is just about back to normal so hopefully that will help Roman & Osiris settle a bit more. Lexie will have full access to the house, once the boys are in for the night, for a while before her usual bedtime in her own room. Although unfortunately I'm committed to taking Ajax to & from a cat show tomorrow so that means I will be leaving the house just after 7 am & won't be back for about 12 hours which will mean she'll be in the "hospital ward" on her own for all that time. However the show is only about 30/45 minutes away from me so I might pop back at some point (its a new (small) show & venue so not sure what the arrangements are there. I just hope its not too warm tomorrow. But there is shade there for her & the sun only gets the conservatory in the morning.

Yesterday turned out to be a rather warm day, so I popped back around 1 pm. It was quite warm in the conservatory, I'd left 1 top light open so opened the other which would give a bit of a through draught. Lexie seemed OK, although was wanting out but that's another matter . The show finished early (it was a small show) so we were away before 4 so stopped off on the way back to Ajax's & all was OK & cooling down. Lexie makes it difficult for me to visually inspect her stomach - talk about squirming! In the end I've utilised a wardrobe mirror to hold her in front of me to see the wound which looks health. She's let me feel the area so long as she's standing normally, & I can't feel any obvious swelling. As it was raining this morning I decided she wouldn't be leaping after butterflies & let her after breakfast, treating Friday & Saturday as the 2 days more the vet referred to. She's happier & I think the others 2 are as everything is back to normal again. Fingers crossed her hernia is now fully recovered & won;t occur again.
