Alfie Is back to old self but on the 12th we will know if they agree with him or not. If they do I am hoping I can keep him on the meds but if they dont I dont get a choice he will have to have surgery again. I have my fingers crossed that they are agreeing with him as I dont want him to have any more operations. I want to enjoy him for however long I have left with him now. Some people might think I'm not putting him first but I am. His hips are in a bad way so he is on tramadol for them and with 3 surgeries in the past hes been through so much. I love him too much to put him through it all again it was bad enough with the scans and tests

Iโm keeping everything thing crossed for you and Alfie and really hope the medication is really helping xx hoping the results are good on the 12th x

If they disagree can you not ask for an extn to the meds time wise ? Just a thought xxx

I've been told the meds is on can do alot of damage to his insides so he has to have regular blood tests. I spoke to my vets and she said the same we dont get a choice on the surgery if the meds are harming him. If the bloods come out that he is ok he will be staying on the meds. I've dont some research on cushings and if he stays on the meds I could have him for up to 3 years or more but with the state of hips I'm unsure. I just want to enjoy him and alf to be happy and enjoying life.

Its a dreadful balancing act to do scruffsmaz. Meds that work but long term can cause damage vs more surgery especially when you know the state his hips. The balance perhaps between quality & quantity of life. You can only do what is right for Alfie & you. We had a similar decision to make for our 15/16 year old cat, Penny, kidney disease/hyperthyroidism/arthritis with Metacam potentially affecting her kidneys even further & not being able to easily pill her so only giving her meds she'd take in her food vs no metacam leading to probably more arthritis but less effect on the kidneys & a stressed cat having to be restrained 1 or 2 times a day to shove pills down her throat which could impact on her blood pressure & lead to a blood clot! Our vet helped with the decision.

Tobin...
Alfie can't have anti inflammatories because the meds he was on for his hips has damaged his liver thats why he's on tramadol now, for his new meds I use ham, I put the meds in the ham and just roll them up he takes it well like that he even watches me do it, it saves alot of stress for him as he has to have his new meds twice a day and his tramadol 3 times a day.

I wasn't thinking about using anti inflammatories for Alfie scruffsmaz just saying that's what we had to balance with Penny other issues. You're lucky that Alfie is a good boy & takes his meds in the ham, our Penny got wise to everything we tried - even splitting Dreamies & putting the pills inside & resealing with pate to no avail!

Dogs are so much easier to give tablets to. Cats on the other hand - you just can't fool them.
