As you know I wasn't planning on getting any more cats after Neil's seemingly allergy to the three boys last summer It broke my heart having to rehome them...even if it WAS to Neil's brother & wife so I still get to see them now and then.
But then in November I think it was, Neil overheard the neighbour talking to her son and saying she was sick of the cats and she didn't want them so could he (her son) just take them away and get rid of them (!!!). Knowing what a nasty arrogant piece ofshi work he is and how we wouldn't put it past him to dump them on the moor (or worse!) Neil stepped in and took the cats! I think this was a deliberate ploy on neighbour's part because she'd originally asked us if we wanted the cats after we lost Phoebe and Loki We'd said no because, we both felt, it was too heartbreaking and we wanted to take a break from cats. That's when, six months down the line, we got three boy kittens!
Neighbour got these two kittens, Holly and Abby, in the summer of 2016 I think it was and as they grew they took to venturing into the overgrown garden next door to the flats which I call The Jungle. They started to bring neighbour 'presents' as cats do.....it was quite comical because all you would hear would be an ear-splitting shriek as neighbour, around 11am, got out of her pit and went into the living room to find a half-eaten corpse Eventually she stopped the cats going into any room except the kitchen which was the only one she could leave with an open window. She once asked me to pop into her flat and feed the cats as she was away for a few days and I agreed. URGH!!!!! She'd left a load of greasy plates steeping in the sink so the water had a scummy surface and the plastic plates she was using for the cat food had obviously never been cleaned for lord knows how long as they had bits of dried up jelly and meat baked on!!! Poor cats having to eat off those!!! And it was only one plate between both of them as well!
Then, last summer, her sister moved in and SHE was a right piece of work.....the courtyard went from a nice quiet area to one of loud tv blaring, slamming doors, two sisters arguing and screeching.....right chavvy scumbags THEN they bought two 'designer puppies' (shih tzu x jack russell I think they are) though lord knows how as neither have worked for years and from then on it was constant yapping and the two sisters screaming at the poor puppies That's when the original Skank Sister decided she didn't want to keep the cats and told her son to dispose of them!
Holly settled in pretty quick as she's the more confident one and Abby, being quite shy, had to be forcibly carried into our home but once she realised we supplied a QUIET house with no screaming, shouting or yappy puppies AND decent food on CLEAN plates she decided to stay put! Neighbour, once she realised the cats had moved into ours, locked her kitchen window and now - it seems - both pusscats are ours
I didn't really want them at first as I still felt upset about my boys and bringing MORE cats into the home, even if these ones didn't seem to affect Neil's breathing, seemed like a betrayal and would just stop me ever getting a dog if the chance arose. But, over the months, their personalities started to come through as they realised they were in a nice safe home and the little tinkers began to grow on me! When they fiorst moved in however they were RIDDLED with fleas and Abby had a tapeworm I sorted out those and a decent diet has changed their fur too.....no longer scurfy but glossy and smooth.
Holly is the demanding diva who lets me know when she wants food...Dreamies...a cat stick.... Neil doesn't believe me but I know which it is by the tone of miaow she makes She's much more outgoing than her sister and, once she'd settled in, brought us a couple of presents in the for of live Wood Mice from The Jungle. I told her she was SO clever and thanked her for her lovely present for Mummy and Daddy and then, when she went back out, caught the mice and released them She hasn't done it for months now so perhaps it was just a gift once she realised she was in a safe home. She is more streamlined than Abby and has a white chin.
Abby is a chunky monkey.....very square and *cough* portly She was SO timid when she came to us and had to be forcibly carried in. But over the past few months her confidence has grown and now she runs up to us yelling for strokes and food etc. Her tail is always straight up and when she enters the room she makes a beeline for us and rubs her body and tail against us Since she realised how nice it is here she's hardly been outside over the entire winter! And when she does venture out you can always tell which cat it is who's come back in as the cat flap in the front door will CRASH open, there'll be thundering feet up the stairs and she will, quite literally, BURST into the living room like a bat out of hell! I've told her she's a nutter but she just purrs and head butts me more
When I brought Isla home on Monday I thought it would be a few weeks before they accepted her and that they would spend most of their time in the bedroom. Pah! Not a bit of it! They spent the first day in the living room giving Isla the Feline Death Stare but once they realised she wasn't going to chase them just started to ignore her. And now, 48hrs on, all three are acting like they've been together all their lives! Yesterday Abby walked into the room and through Isla's front legs and rubbed her tail against her and this morning Holly did the same! She looked a bit horrified when Isla's cold wet nose poked itself into her butt though
It's tricky to get decent pics of them with them both being black & white but these aren't TOO bad.....I'll hopefully get better ones once it gets warmer and they start venturing out more.
