The boys I work with came into work this morning and were unlocking the door when they heard miaows. They spotted 2 kittens hiding in the corner but when they tried to pick them up they both ran away. They managed to catch one and we have it in a crate with a piece of steel on the top. I think they were dumped or possibly feral. The black one ran away down the road where there's bushes and we can' find it. The other one is a beautifully marked tabby with white bib and feet. It's terrified and when approached is spitting and hissing. I contacted the Cats Protection League and they gave me the number of the RSPCA and a local animal sanctuary called Socelex. A man from Socelex is coming to get the kitten around 12 o'clock. When the CPL ring me back I will ask about a trap to hopefully catch the black one as it doesn't stand much chance out on its own. I think the kittens are about 8 weeks old. How cruel if someone did dump them. I have named the kitten Kiwi and it's drunk some milk. I had just been into town before work and bought some Whiskas biscuits and soft stick treats so I've put some in the crate but the kitten hasn't eaten any. No, I'm not allowed to take them home! on Flickr

Kiwi the kitten has just been collected by the Pet Rescue man. We had to lend him a pair of gloves to grab her, she was very feisty. They will let me know how she's getting on.

We just spotted the black kitten! A boy from the unit factory next door heard it crying and told one of our boys so we went outside and he was looking under one of our work's vans and all of a sudden the kitten ran out and back into the bushes. It was actually up in the wheel arch of the van! I've put some milk out and hopefully it will come back. The CPL haven't got back to me - I'm not surprised as I've never had much help off them in the past.

Kiwi looks gorgeous, and hope you can catch Blackie. How can anyone be so cruel as to abandon those two little scraps of fluff. I hate humans sometimes. Well done on the rescue, by the way.

Well done lotsofcats on getting Kiwi caught & finding a rescue to take the kitten. Fingers crossed the other one can be caught soon. I remember some of the issue you had with CP in your area, so no wonder you weren't surprised by their lack of response.

I managed to speak to CPL again yesterday and the woman I spoke to knew nothing of my previous call! I asked about a trap for the other kitten and she said there was a 2 week waiting list!!!!! - for a kitten? Isn't that an emergency? Later on another woman from CPL rang me and she was following up my first call and she said we could have a trap, but I haven't heard from her this morning so will try to contact her. Gareth, who works with me bought some kitten food and came back here last night with his girlfriend to see if they could find the kitten - they didn't see it but found the kittens' mother under the van!! So, the story seems to be that the mother was dumped when pregnant and she had 2 kittens, which explains why they are a bit feisty. The mother is not feral - as soon as Gareth opened a pouch of cat food, she recognised the sound and wolfed down 3 pouches of food! If we don't catch the cat and her kitten he will continue to come down in the evening and feed her. At least we now know the kitten won't starve as it can still have milk from it's mum. I really need that trap from CPL today. I would like the mum and kitten to go to the same rescue centre as the other kitten.

At least you've found the reason for the kittens being there lotsofcats. Hopefully the tameness of mum will help catching both her & the kitten.

The woman from CPL just brought the trap for me. I was told I can't put it out overnight so I'll do it first thing. I'd left milk out and until an hour ago it was still there so if I'd had the trap earlier I might have caught something. The girl from next door's unit just came in and said the kitten just zoomed past but it's gone now. Fingers crossed for the morning.

I've set the trap and it's just a bit under a container unit in front of next door's factory unit. I know that's where the kitten was seen yesterday afternoon. A boy next door said he'd seen it a few times in the afternoon but didn't say anything to anyone!! Grrrr, I might have been able to catch it yesterday. The woman from CPL gave me a sheet to put on top of the trap if I manage to catch a cat or kitten as she said they go ballistic. When I tested the trap I realised why - the noise when the door slams shut is so loud, they ought to put some rubber around it! I haven't spoken to Gareth from work yet as he's out on site, but he was going to visit last night.

No sign of the cat or kitten today. Gareth saw the kitten last night but not the mother cat. I rang the cat rescue that took little Kiwi and they said he/she is okay, still wild but eating well. They are taking her to the vet on Tuesday for a check over. The vet said to leave it until then and hopefully he won't need his gloves! If I catch the others they will be going to the CPL, the woman from there was adamant! I just checked the trap and the piece of ham I put in the front has gone - this was supposed to tempt the cat to the back of the trap where the rest of the food is!

I had a day off work today but popped in after I'd taken Kai Ruki to the vet for his booster. No sign of the cat or kitten, but the food had gone. Gareth is going to put food down over the weekend.
The vet asked if Kai Ruki had Maine Coon in him!!!

Hope you had a nice day off lotsofcats. How long have you been going to that vets - or was this just a new vet at the practice! Well I suppose the vet was technically right just a bit under the % Maine Coon.
