So as mentioned in the chit chat thread, Alfie went off most of his treats recently and upon inspection I found a loose tooth at the very back of his mouth. There was no way he was going to let the vet have a good look so I took a video with me to show her: So he was booked in for today to have that tooth removed and the others all checked and cleaned. He was in all day today, I picked him up around 6pm - he's had SIX removed! Poor boy is feeling a bit worse for wear now. He's very disoriented and almost fell asleep in his water bowl earlier He can't be feeling too bad though as he was happy enough to eat dinner as soon as he got in! He's got to go back in 5 days for a checkup. Just after I collected him: IMG-20180821-WA0024 by alfiemummy26, on Flickr IMG_20180821_185726224 by alfiemummy26, on Flickr IMG_20180821_192002855 by alfiemummy26, on Flickr

Five ? Wow poor boy , how is he now , why 5 in the end ? Six! I'm not certain why, I only spoke to the nurse and didn't really get a definitive answer. She just said that they would have been removed if loose or had any decay, holes or other damage etc, probably just due to his age. I had no clue there were so many bothering him No wonder he didn't fancy his treats! All of the others were in very good shape I was told. He's ok now, just been sleeping all evening and very disoriented and wobbly.

Oh poor Alfie, six extractions! That should make him feel a lot better alfiemummy, especially as the video show how loose the one you found was. Brilliant idea to video it for the vet.

Yes he seems back to normal now, he doesn't seem to have noticed that he's now got 6 teeth missing - he keeps wanting to play tug and was scoffing discarded chips on his walk earlier. Wait until you're healed up a bit more please Alf!

Glad that Alfie is feeling much better. Animals get better so much quicker than we would after having 6 teeth out.

He went back for his checkup today and the vet was very happy with how he's healing up No more checkups now, I can start brushing his teeth again and gradually reintroduce harder foods after another 5 days.

We've just tried our new toothbrush. This bamboo toothbrush is fully organic (I bought it when our vet said that plastic brushes can be dangerous for pets). I think it's better to use such stuff to avoid those toxins which are in plastic brushes. The only disadvantage is that your dog can crack it down when not in the mood for brushing teeth. But this could happen with a plastic brush as well.
